Man United could cash in on Antony this summer, with the club ready to listen to offers.
It goes without saying that a large portion of Manchester United’s struggles comes from the misuse of money. For far too long, the Old Trafford club have wasted funds, both in terms of transfer fees and player wages.
Erik ten Hag has certainly spent the large bulk of his money wisely. You look at moves for Lisandro Martinez and Rasmus Hojlund as truly game-changing. However, massive concerns remain about Antony.
The winger looked good during his debut season, offering real hope for the future assuming he continued to develop and improve. Unfortunately, his growth as a player has halted, while off-field issues are not helping.
Now, the Manchester Evening News believe United are ‘expected to entertain offers’ for the big-money star, who continues to fall down the pecking order.
Omari Forson was selected to start ahead of Antony against Fulham this weekend amid an injury crisis, while even Amad was brought on earlier than the Brazilian off the substitutes bench. It certainly sends a message to the former Ajax man who cost in excess of £80m.
Antony is without a goal in the league since April. For a right-winger, playing for the biggest club in the country, that is just not good enough.
The problem here is that United will not get close to the fee they paid for Antony back. We’ve all watched him for the better part of eighteen months now. He is not close to an £80m+ player. In all seriousness, they’d do well to fetch £30m for the 24-year-old.
In all likelihood, I can imagine Antony still being at the club next season. United are highly unlikely to receive an offer that they’d deem suitable, which pretty much shuts down all talk of a potential exit.
