Manchester United need a new centre-half. That much is obvious. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been linked with names aplenty already this summer, although we’re yet to hear anything concrete in regards to a potential incoming defender.
Today’s, print edition of L’Equipe, translated via Sport Witness, have an update on Issa Diop’s proposed move to Old Trafford. They say that United’s transfer ‘hammer’ (no pun intended) is ready following several ‘contacts’ with the West Ham defender’s entourage…
Apparently, United are yet to formalise an offer for Diop, although it is claimed that the proposal should not take long. L’Equipe go on to add that the Red Devils are to make an offer for the 22-year-old in the coming days…

Solskjaer wants to strengthen his defence and Diop’s name is on the shortlist, while West Ham’s position remains the same – they don’t want to sell the Frenchman.
Furthermore, in terms of a first offer, L’Equipe state that it’d be hard to imagine an offer of less than €50m (£44.8m) being placed by the Old Trafford club.
It does feel as though United aren’t planning on leaving any stone unturned in their search for a new centre-half. Diop is a talented lad, but at this point in time, I feel as though the Red Devils need to move for someone with more experience. A Harry Maguire or Toby Alderweireld are my first choice candidates – but moves for those two are much easier said than done…
