Man United are going to have to cough up around £60m to sign Mason Mount this summer.

Manchester United have been chasing Mason Mount pretty hard at the start of this summer transfer window, with Erik ten Hag making it pretty common knowledge that a new midfielder is a key target for him.

The Englishman is out of contract at Chelsea in a years’ time, so the Stamford Bridge club have some real decisions to make on Mount.

We’ve been covering the whole saga here, with almost daily updates now coming in regard to Mount’s future.

The latest update comes from the usually reliable Chris Wheeler, writing for the Daily Mail. It’s only a snippet of information, though it’s important.

He states that United are ‘expected’ to pay around £60m to sign the 24-year-old this summer.

On the face of it, that’s an expensive fee for a player with one year left on his contract. However, Chelsea were always going to charge a premium to allow Mount to move to a fellow Premier League club.

Adding some extra energy into the midfield sounds like a major target for Ten Hag, with Mount the perfect player. He’s a direct upgrade on Christian Eriksen in pretty much every aspect.

Aged 24, Mount could offer some longevity to United, with the player seemingly keen on making a move happen.

I understand that £60m represents a large chunk of the transfer budget, but this would be an underrated piece of business. Not only will United improve with this signing, Chelsea are also weaker. I get that it’s not a glamour addition to the squad, though Mount’s impact would be massive for the whole club.

Do you think Man United should pay that amount to sign Mason Mount? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
