Manchester United are expected to test the Jack Grealish waters, with a bid in January.
In the summer, there were genuine claims that Jack Grealish was a prime target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. In the end, though, United would choose to head in a different direction.
Well, it seems as though the interest in the Englishman remains. The story comes from the Daily Mirror, who claimed that United are ready to ‘test the waters’ to sign the top-class 25-year-old in January. Though they also face competition from Manchester City and Liverpool…
It’s stated that United will test the waters in January, although a deal isn’t expected to happen in the mid-season window. Rather it’ll be a transfer battle that’ll most likely play out over the summer.
Grealish has been dynamite this season. Goals, assists, chance creation, winning fouls – for both club and country. He’s really kicked it up a notch from last term for Aston Villa and he’s a genuine joy to watch. However, his off-field antics leave a small doubt in my mind about whether United will pay through the roof to sign him.
Would a Grealish move really make sense?
You also have to think about where Grealish would slot in at United. Obviously, that attacking-midfield spot is occupied by Bruno Fernandes, who is performing like the best player in the country right now.
If the Englishman made the move to Manchester, he’d probably have to play on the left-wing. Even then, his place in the team isn’t a given as Marcus Rashford will obviously have something to say about that.
In terms of a fee, Grealish won’t come cheap which is why I think this deal will die. United aren’t going to pay a premium price for someone who’d initially be a squad/rotational option at best. Why not spend this money on a genuinely world-class right-sided attacker instead?
Don’t get me wrong, I love Grealish. I just feel like there are other options out there. That all could change if Paul Pogba leaves, mind…
