Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave Man United in the January transfer window.
The Manchester United transformation under Erik ten Hag is well underway. The Old Trafford club are moving away from old tactics, implementing a high-pressing, fast-paced system instead.
Sometimes, this requires different playing personnel. One man who has completely fallen out of favour, despite regular starts under the previous manager, is Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Diogo Dalot has completely taken charge of that right-back position, further tightening his grip as the starter with an excellent World Cup.
Now, Wan-Bissaka’s days at the Theatre of Dreams appear to be numbered, according to 90min.com. Apparently, United ‘are expecting’ the 25-year-old first-teamer to leave in the January transfer window.
As of right now, the club are ‘considering’ their options as to how to replace Wan-Bissaka. How big United go in the January transfer window is what is currently being weighed up behind the scenes.
Jeremie Frimpong and Denzel Dumfries remain targets, though they’re classed as expensive options. Josip Juranovic and Malo Gusto are also being considered – these are likely to be cheaper transfers.
As is always the case, January is a notoriously difficult period to buy top-class players. Perhaps bringing back the impressive Ethan Laird is a genuine possibility. He’s enjoying himself out on loan at QPR right now.
The club also have some work to do regarding Dalot, who is out of contract next summer. Thankfully, the club hold the option to extend that deal by a further year if they so choose – while you’d hope that a long-term contract isn’t too far away for the Portugal international.
In the end, I think it probably makes sense to wait until next summer – so the club can purchase a player that Ten Hag truly wants to work with.
