Man United seemingly have a new transfer target on their minds; Atalanta winger, Amad Traore.
With Jadon Sancho’s future still up in the air, it makes sense for Manchester United to look at other possibilities. It seems as though they’ve stumbled upon Amad Traore, who plays for Serie A club, Atalanta.
The scoop comes from the Manchester Evening News, who state that United are ‘exploring the possibility’ of signing the emerging the 18-year-old. Furthermore, they’ve already contacted Atalanta, amid competition from other clubs.
Apparently, United don’t view Traore as an alternative to Sancho, which somewhat hints that both could well be signed in the same transfer window.
Despite the fact that Traore has only played thirty minutes of Serie A football, Italian sources have ‘warned’ that the Ivorian will not come cheap. He did back up that superb cameo with a debut goal – during which he became the youngest player to score in the Italian top-flight on debut. At the time, he was just 17 years and 109 days old.
The story adds that United remain interest in Sancho, though they’re still some way off reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund.
United turning to youth again?
I get the impression that Traore would be a player signed for the future, as opposed to the here and now. The fact that he has hardly any top-flight, competitive experience leads me to believe he’d probably spend a season with the U23s if he were signed.
Like Hannibal Mejbri, Traore wouldn’t be cheap. Make no mistake about it, signing the winger would be a gamble, but given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s track-record with developing youth, it’s probably one worth taking.
I’ll stress that at this point in time, United’s focus should be on first-team acquisitions.
