Man United have eyes on Raphael Varane as a potential summer transfer target.
Harry Maguire hasn’t missed a single minute of Premier League football since he was acquired by the club in the summer of 2019. That’s why he’s Manchester United captain.
On the other hand, the Englishman’s partner seems to change game-in-game-out. Be it Eric Bailly or Victor Lindelof, with a little Axel Tuanzebe in between, Maguire hasn’t been able to find that consistency, ala Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
It makes sense, then, that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add a new centre-half this summer; enter, Raphael Varane.
According to the Daily Mail, United are ‘exploring’ a deal to sign the class 27-year-old. A player whom the Red Devils are long-term admirers of.
Apparently, United have been ‘given encouragement’ that Varane is ready to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, though there could be stiff competition from Paris Saint-Germain – the club Varane is a fan of…
With just one year left on his contract, Varane is valued at around £60million by Real Madrid. who are looking to raise funds for their ‘own rebuilding’. Honestly, in the middle of a global pandemic, I believe they’d do really well to get that sort of money for the Frenchman.
That’s not me doubting his ability. I just think clubs will approach this one with caution, particularly when we’re discussing a player who’d cost absolutely nothing in twelve months’ time.
It goes without saying, Varane would be a drastic upgrade on our back line. Heck, he’d probably be the best defender we have as soon as he walks through the door. The Frenchman has the qualities to become the catalyst for our future success, much like Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool.
If there’s any chance United can pull this one off, I’d go all out to get it done if I were Edward Woodward. This boy can play.
