Man United could look to use Anthony Martial as a makeweight in any deal to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
Edinson Cavani can no longer be relied upon. Cristiano Ronaldo is getting older. Mason Greenwood will never play for this club again.
It’s fair to say Manchester United have to invest in a new goal-scorer this summer – even if Ronaldo remains a Red Devil beyond this summer. The Portugal superstar needs help.
The dream acquisition in that area of the field for every elite side is Erling Haaland. It goes without saying, the Norwegian would be a surreal signing, though, without Champions League football on offer, you get the impression it’ll be tough to pull it off.
Perhaps the next best thing is Harry Kane. It’s well-known he tried to leave Spurs last summer but Daniel Levy dug his heels in. Perhaps now is the time to move for the Englishman.
According to ESPN, United are ‘exploring the possibility’ of using the 26-year-old Anthony Martial in any deal to sign the prolific striker Kane over the next few months.
The article claims United are ‘in the market’ to sign a striker this summer, with Kane one of the options being monitored by the Old Trafford club. Tottenham’s £100million plus valuation of Kane is considered problematic, which is why United are hoping to use Martial as a makeweight in the deal, to bring the cash fee down significantly.
What makes this interesting is that Tottenham have enquired about Martial in the past, though it’s believed the player would prefer a move to Italy or Spain rather than remaining in England.
I think it’s fair to say the Martial experiment has failed. At the start of his career in Manchester, it looked like there was every chance he’d go on to do great things within our game. However, he’s massively stagnated since and we’re just not getting enough output from him at this point in time.
Perhaps a change of scenery is the best fit for all involved.
