Man United could make their move for Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic this summer.
Manchester United continue to evolve under Erik ten Hag, with this squad playing some great football right now. It’s mostly down to our manager.
With the summer now looming, more money has to be spent in order to ensure the dressing room continues to improve going into the 2023/24 window.
Several names have already been linked with an Old Trafford switch. No doubt many more will follow. Today’s story comes from 90min.com, who link Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic with a possible move.
According to their report, United are amongst the sides ‘exploring the potential signing’ of the 28-year-old Premier League midfielder. Manchester City and Liverpool are also keen on the ex-Real Madrid man.
Kovacic enters into the final year of his contract this summer, though extension talks have not yet progressed past the initial stages, leaving his Stamford Bridge future in doubt.
As things stand, Kovacic and his reps are weighing up their options.
Chelsea’s squad is deep right now, meaning some players have to leave in order to bring more balance to their squad. United, among others, could take advantage of that situation.
Kovacic is certainly someone who’d offer us some mobility in midfield, while also bringing in more experience and a winning mentality.
There’s no doubt Kovacic would be an astute signing, particularly if United can get a deal done on the cheap.
Negotiating with fellow Premier League sides is never that straightforward, though, as Chelsea will want an extra premium on top of their transfer demands as they’d be selling to a top four and title rival.
I still think it’s worth at least making an enquiry, to gauge how serious Chelsea are in regard to selling Kovacic.
