Man United express ‘concerns’ over Sofyan Amrabat’s indifferent start to life at Man United

Man United hold concerns about Sofyan Amrabat and his slow start to life at the club, prompting a potential move to sign a defensive midfielder.

Manchester United’s midfield is decimated at the moment. Christian Eriksen is out. Mason Mount, too. Casemiro will not be back on the pitch until 2024. But for Kobbie Mainoo’s return, Erik ten Hag would be neck-deep in trouble right now.

It’s still a precarious situation, mind, as one more injury could leave United in a real mess.

Over the summer, I was super excited when Sofyan Amrabat was acquired on deadline day. I firmly believed that the man from Morocco was going to transform our midfield due to his energy, work ethic and on-ball quality. Sadly, that hasn’t quite happened so far.

The Guardian have now offered an update on United’s midfield, claiming that United now have ‘concerns’ over Amrabat’s ‘indifferent’ start at the club.

As a result, this has prompted United to consider a January signing in his defensive midfield position. United are also looking for a right-sided centre-back, a number eight and a striker. Much may depend on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s potential 25% ownership of the club.

On Amrabat, I think we’ve all been pretty disappointed. Whether it’s a confidence thing or a lack of consistent minutes, I’m not so sure. He just looks that yard off it right now, while Mainoo has come in and now lept straight ahead of the Fiorentina loanee.

The Moroccan has to turn it around sooner rather than later, or there’s no way United will be sanctioning a permanent deal to bring in the 27-year-old. Perhaps he just needs a run of games in the side to restore that belief and hunger.
