Just yesterday, we covered a story from France Football in which it was claimed that Manchester United had caught up to, and overtaken Arsenal in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender, Dayot Upamecano.
This morning, L’Equipe’s Thursday print edition, translated via Sport Witness, offered us another update.
Apparently, United are amongst several Premier League sides who have expressed an interest in the 21-year-old centre-back, who currently has a £52m release clause within his current contract.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that L’Equipe claimed Upamecano ‘doesn’t hide his attraction’ for England, though the article does stress that the centre-half hasn’t chosen his next destination as of yet.

This is a young man who has been impressing majorly over the last twelve months or so. Make no mistake about it, Upamecano would be a brilliant addition to any squad – particularly if he keeps developing at this rate.
However, I wonder what this signing would mean for the likes of Axel Tuaznebe and Eric Bailly, both of whom are back playing and enjoying their football once again.
£52m is a fair fee, though I do feel that money could be spent wiser elsewhere at this point in time. I guess it all comes down to just how highly Ole Gunnar Solskjaer values Upamecano.
