Man United ‘expressing an interest’ in Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Man United are one of the sides who have shown some sort of interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Cristiano Ronaldo aside, this Manchester United team desperately struggled to stick the ball in the back of the net in 2021/22. The legal case involving Mason Greenwood coupled with a misfiring Anthony Martial didn’t help. Neither are likely to play for the club again.

Factor in an uncertain quantity in Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani’s departure, you get the feeling that at least one top-quality attacker will have to be brought in.

Well, according to the Daily Mirror, one man United are looking at is Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The article gives off the impression that Newcastle United are the current frontrunners to sign Calvert-Lewin, though United are also ‘expressing an interest’ in the 25-year-old striker, along with Arsenal.

The Everton man endured a ‘disappointing’ campaign over the last nine months, though a large portion of that is down to injury.

United’s interest dates back to the season prior, during which Calvert-Lewin was amongst the best forwards in the country. However, the Englishman has undoubtedly taken a step back over the last year.

It’s no surprise that without a fully firing Calvert-Lewin, Everton struggled for large portions of the season. However, the talent is still obviously there – and if the striker can stay injury-free, I’d fully tip him to get back to his best.

There’s no doubt that the price tag would have been significantly cheaper if Everton were relegated this season, but the Toffees will be doing all they can to keep ahold of their star forward going into 2022/23.

I like the idea behind this move. Calvert-Lewin could dip in and out of the line-up next season, learning from Cristiano Ronaldo in training every day, with a view to becoming our main man in a year or two.

I do feel like this move is a bit of a long shot at this moment in time, though.

Would a Man United move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin be a shrewd piece of business? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
