Man United are seemingly still looking to add a centre-back to the squad, with interest in Ozan Kabak now being reported.
Without wanting to jinx it, I think it’s fair to say that Manchester United’s defensive duo of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have improved over the last couple of months.
With that said, it looks as if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still in the market for a centre-half. I guess that’s largely down to the likes of Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo being constantly unavailable due to injuries.
The latest player linked with a potential Old Trafford switch is young Ozan Kabak.
It’s being claimed by the Daily Mail that United are the latest side to express an interest in the talented 20-year-old. With the likes of Liverpool and RB Leipzig previously keen on the Turkish defender.
Described as a ‘combative player’ who is ‘good on the ball’, Kabak is someone who could be available in a cut-price deal. Initially, Schalke were after £40million to let the centre-half leave. However, after struggling financially due to COVID-19, the young man now command’s an asking price of somewhere around £25million.
Do United have a genuine need for another centre-half?
I would say that although it’s not an immediate concern, it would be nice for Solskjaer to have someone reliable as that first-choice back-up. Kabak is someone who could fulfil that role nicely, while pushing Victor Lindelof hard for regular starts in the long-term.
Don’t get me wrong, I really rate Axel Tuanzebe and Bailly, though neither have offered that regular availability which is key to success at the highest level.
A move for Kabak would have to be considered a risk due to his young age and lack of Premier League experience. On paper, though, he definitely looks like someone who could fit the bill.
