Man United could look to make a move to sign Marcus Edwards this coming summer.
Manchester United have some big decisions to make this summer, with Erik ten Hag’s side struggling this season.
If the club keep the faith in the Dutch manager, he has to be ruthless, cutting players who just aren’t good enough – despite the fact that they’re his signings. Pep Guardiola is the best in the business. He never shies away from doing just that.
In United’s situation, is Antony who simply has to go. Ten Hag has publicly backed the wide man but there have to be real internal concerns about the Brazilian, who just doesn’t look good enough.
However, Football Transfers believe United have been scouting a 25-year-old winger as a possible Antony replacement; Marcus Edwards.
The Englishman is doing well for Sporting CP over in Portugal – a league which United have had success when buying from in the past.
Edwards is an inverted winger who prefers to play on the right side, though he can play on the left, or even through the middle, if needed.
This deal will not happen in the January transfer window, with a summer move being touted. There’s a ‘confidence’ a move can be sealed for around £30m, due to the fact that Edwards’ contract runs out in 2026.
His eleven goal contributions in 26 appearances is impressive in comparison to Antony’s zero goals and zero assists this season.
It feels sad saying it, but the only way is up. Antony has been an absolute disaster and Edwards does look like a better player by far. If you can somehow fetch in around £30m for Antony this summer, it’d be a straight trade-off for Edwards and that does feel like a shred piece of business given the circumstances.
This definitely feels like an INEOS signing, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe starts to influence the decisions that are being made at the Theatre of Dreams.
