Manchester United have identified Celtic’s Kieran Tierney as an alternative signing to their first-choice left-back option, Danny Rose, according to the Daily Mirror.
Jose Mourinho had been weighing up a sensational offer to sign Rose from Tottenham in January, but the Red Devils have baulked at their £50million valuation of the Englishman; hence United’s interest has moved elsewhere.
The report says that United have been tracking Tierney for the best part of two years, and now the young Scot has emerged as a cheaper option in pursuit of a left-back.
Tierney is highly regarded by Celtic, having already been made captain of their club, while also putting pen to paper on a new long-term contract in October. With that said, Scottish football isn’t anywhere close to the calibre of Premier League football, so that’s why he’ll probably cost an awful lot less than Rose.
I would point out that Luke Shaw has been looking brilliant recently and things may change again if that continues, because why bring someone else in if you’ve already got a long-term solution within the squad already? We’ll just have to see how this one plays out, but United aren’t in any rush as they’ve got Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian who can both fill in at left-back for the foreseeable future.
