Man United are plotting a midfield overhaul, with Declan Rice sitting atop their wishlist.
January was an extremely quiet one in terms of incoming at Manchester United. Though I guess we should’ve expected as much with no permanent manager in place.
When the summer rolls around, we’re likely to invest heavily in the playing squad when the new gaffer is appointed. After all, he’ll want his own players that fit his system and style.
Ahead of what could be a key window for the Reds, United are once again being linked with Declan Rice.
The story comes from ESPN, who state that United are eyeing a summer move for the classy 23-year-old. Apparently, the Reds are planning an overhaul in the key central midfield position, with Rice sitting atop that list.
Other names include Kalvin Phillips and Amadou Haidara, on a shortlist of as many as fifteen possible options. It’s believed that list will be whittled down to just three, eventually.
Rice is always going to be hot property until he finally moves away from West Ham United. He’s probably the best up-and-comer in his position right now, hence the London club are quoting fees of over £100million to let him leave.
United, Manchester City and Chelsea are all showing an interest in the Englishman – with the fierce competition telling you everything you need to know about his abilities.
I do like Rice and I think he’s an excellent player. I’m just not sure I’d sanction £100m+, when we have a similar footballer in Scott McTominay already on the books.
Plus you then have to factor in the pressure on Rice’s shoulders that comes with such a fee. Look at what happened to Harry Maguire when his record-breaking move to Old Trafford went through.
Surely there are better (and cheaper) options out there, allowing more money to be invested in other players at the same time?
