Man United eyeing double transfer swoop for Wan-Bissaka & Van Aaanholt: report

Manchester United have been abysmal defensively over the last twelve months. It all stems from an alarming lack of investment in that area of the pitch. I guess it says it all that Phil Jones and Chris Smalling are both still regular starters, despite their obvious struggles.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a big job ahead. It’s probably too large to complete in one transfer window. This is going to take time but he has to start somewhere – signing two new full-backs would be an excellent start.

According to The Sun, United are eyeing a double transfer swoop for Crystal Palace pair, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Patrick Van Aanholt in a £50million move.

Solskjaer wants to overhaul a struggling defence, while this isn’t the first time, nor will it be the last this summer, that United have been linked with a move for the highly-rated Wan-Bissaka.

The Englishman has been rather brilliant since breaking through into the Eagles first-team, and with Antonio Valencia leaving, the 21-year-old would be an excellent replacement.

However, I have my doubts about whether Wan-Bissaka is going anywhere this summer, particularly after reiterating his desire to stay at Selhurst Park earlier this month…

Van Aanholt is an interesting one. Aged 28, he has certainly improved over the last two years, but this would be a signing that provides Luke Shaw with more competition. Whether the Dutchman would be able to wrestle the starting job away from United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year winner remains to be seen, but it is a move I could get on board with.
