A Man United move for Max Aarons could well be in the offing in the summer.
We’ve been here before. At the back end of 2020, we covered a claim from the Daily Mail, who stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held an interest in the Norwich City right-back, Max Aarons.
After all, it’s an easy link to make given United allowed Diogo Dalot to leave on loan in January – leaving Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the only recognised right-back in the first-team squad.
Now, those stories are resurfacing again. This time, the claim comes from The Express. Apparently, United are eyeing a deal to sign the talented 21-year-old, as Solskjaer looks to provide some real competition for the aforementioned Wan-Bissaka.
The English right-back, signed from Crystal Palace in 2019, has started all-but two league games for United this term. Simply put, when fit, Wan-Bissaka plays.
However, the Baby Faced Assassin is hoping lightning strikes twice with a move for Aarons. No doubt he’s looked at what the addition of Alex Telles has done for Luke Shaw and he’s looking to repeat that feat over in the right-back position.
What does this mean for Diogo Dalot?
Well, you’d probably envisage the Portuguese’s days at Old Trafford are numbered. He’s doing okay over in Italy with AC Milan and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them try and acquire the ex-Porto man on a permanent deal.
It does seem pretty clear that Solskjaer doesn’t really fancy Dalot, though, hence why a move for Aarons is being considered.
Would Aarons be a good addition?
We’re talking about an already-impressive young full-back who is only going to improve with a move to Old Trafford. He’s built in an offensive mould, too, meaning he’d offer something different to Wan-Bissaka.
Heck, even if the plan is to only sign Aarons in order to push Wan-Bissaka to that next level, it seems like a no-brainer. The only issue United may have is that Norwich are looking good for automatic promotion. They’d be keen on keeping ahold of their key defender, meaning Aarons’ price would likely be driven up.
I’m sure United could afford it if they wanted him bad enough, mind…
