Man United eyeing move for £26million-rated centre-back, Mourinho desperate for defensive reinforcements: report

Manchester United Football Club pushed hard to sign a centre-back over the summer, but obviously, nothing came to fruition.

Now, the Red Devils, fronted by Jose Mourinho, will try again in January. Apparently, the self-proclaimed Special One has been convinced to make a move for Joachim Andersen by United fitness coach, Stefano Rapetti.

That’s according to reports in Italy from Calciomercato, translated by The Metro. Rapetti has previously worked with Andersen during their time together at Sampdoria, however, the Serie A side won’t be selling the centre-back in January – although they are prepared to let him go next summer.

Aged 22, Andersen is rated at around £26million, which, all things considered, is pretty cheap in this day and age.

I do have one major concern, however. United need proven quality rather than another young, up-and-coming talent. We need someone who is ready to come in and play now. Mourinho doesn’t have the time to work on developing yet another bright star.

Personally, I’d love to see a Toby Alderweireld come in to partner Victor Lindelof because at least you know you’re getting a solid professional, week-in-week-out. It is notoriously difficult to buy in January, so don’t expect anything to happen until next summer at the earliest.
