Man United seemingly have a new player on their radar, Hoffenheim midfielder Christoph Baumgartner.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils are a side that’s constantly improving. Manchester United are signing great players, playing some lovely football and growing in confidence.
The Old Trafford club are fighting for a title this season, make no mistake about that. However, the Baby Faced Assassin has always struck us as someone with long-term goals in mind – hence why most of his signings have been young players.
Now, another up-and-comer is being linked with a United switch; Christoph Baumgartner.
The story comes from The Sun in the form of an exclusive, who state that United are eyeing a move for the 21-year-old midfielder.
Baumgartner is currently valued at £16million by his current club Hoffenheim. Though that value is only expected to rise given his contract doesn’t expire until 2023 and his performances continue to get better.
The Sun write that a summer move is most likely, after United have been tracking Baumgartner ‘closely’, with a view to signing the Austrian to ‘bolster their attacking options’.
What would Baumgartner bring to the table?
I find this one interesting. Midfield is probably where United are at their strongest right now. Heck, Donny van de Beek still can’t break into the team.
The only way I see this deal happening is if Paul Pogba leaves. Perhaps Solskjaer knows the Frenchman is 100% on his way out next summer and he’s already planning ahead?
I don’t doubt Baumgartner’s ability, but I’m just not sure I see him as that game-changer United need right now. For me, go out there and get a world-class right-winger, add another defensive-minded midfielder and then this squad can truly challenge for major honours.
