Man United could make their move for Lille striker, Jonathan David.
Manchester United need signings in a variety of positions this summer window, though with money thought to be tight due to Premier League Profit & Sustainability rules, it’s down to INEOS to spend wisely.
A striker has to be close to the top of the list, particularly due to the fact that Anthony Martial left and Rasmus Hojlund needs help.
It feels like there have been no concrete links for an acquisition in that position as of yet, though the stories are now starting to increase. Today’s claim comes from the I Newspaper, who believe the Reds have eyes on Lille’s Jonathan David.
According to their information, United are now ‘stepping up’ their search for squad reinforcements, with the 24-year-old ‘high’ on their striker shortlist.
United are said to have made contact with David’s representatives, but face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Aston Villa for the Canadian’s signature.
David is available to transfer according to Lille’s club president, due to the fact he only has a year left on his contract. It is thought the forward could be available for around £25m, which is an excellent price for a player of his calibre and potential.
The striker had an excellent 2023/24 season, scoring 26 goals in 47 games across all competitions. United have had eyes on David for ‘a while’, though his most recent season means the Reds are not alone in the chase.
This could be an astute piece of business by the Red Devils. David comes with a price that’s way below his typical market value, though beating out fellow Premier League teams to win the race for his signature may be tough. It could be in the club’s best interests to act quickly.
