Manchester United’s squad probably has too many holes and gaps to fill in during one transfer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to be given both time and money.
What seems pretty clear to me is that the Baby Faced Assassin is trying to move in a different direction – by signing young players and taking this club back to basics.
Last night, in an exclusive, The Sun linked United with a move for another youngster – this time Chelsea’s full-back Reece James.
However, the Reds won’t have it all their own way, with Leicester City and Everton also in the hunt to sign the 19-year-old who is rated at around £15million.
Following an excellent loan spell for Wigan Athletic in the Championship last season, interest in James has only heightened – particularly after being included in the Championship Team of the Season.
Aged 19, James still has much maturing and developing to do, but his signature would give some much-needed competition to our struggling full-backs at the moment and at around £15million it would certainly be worth it.
My only concern would be whether Chelsea would willingly sell a talented up-and-comer to a direct rival, particularly with the transfer ban looming over their head as they wouldn’t be able to replace the teenager straight away…
