Man United face stiff competition to sign Christopher Nkunku

Man United links to RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku just won’t go away.

Erik ten Hag will already have a picture of how he wants his Manchester United squad to look on the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign.

To achieve that goal, big money will need to be spent, given how many players are expected to leave this summer. It’s down to the United board to back their man and deliver him the signings he asks for.

One name that links have been consistent with recently is Christopher Nkunku. The RB Leipzig attacker is going to be hot property over the next few months.

Yesterday, Football.London ran another story about Nknunku, with United amongst the sides who are looking to sign the 24-year-old attacker this summer.

They state that United are ‘set to do battle’ with Chelsea and Arsenal to acquire the Frenchman’s signature – and bring Nkunku to the Premier League.

All three sides linked are ‘looking to bolster’ their attack ahead of the new campaign, though the German side are ready for a transfer battle as they look to keep ahold of their star player for another season.

Nkunku has a huge 34 goals across all competitions this season, with the attacking player really coming on leaps and bounds over the last twelve months.

There’s no doubt he’d improve whichever side ends up winning the race to acquire Nkunku, though I cannot help United are already a step behind in that regard.

Ten Hag cannot offer Champions League football next season. Arsenal and Chelsea will be able to. The best players love playing in the best competitions. United will be playing on Thursday nights next season, which is a far less attractive proposition.

There’s no doubt this would be an outrageously-good piece of business if United can make it happen. I just don’t see how we win the race unless Nkunku’s number one objective is to go with the best financial package.

Would a Man United move for Christopher Nkunku make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
