Manchester United have failed with a £53million bid for the talented Inter Milan defender, Milan Skriniar.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, per talkSPORT, who adds that Manchester City matched the Red Devils’ offer, but that was turned down too…
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a stunning debut season with the Serie A side, emerging as an outstanding talent across European football. He’s already amassed sixteen caps for Slovakia – further proving that he’s an excellent little player.
Milan obviously aren’t keen on the idea of parting with such a key figure, particularly as they return to the Champions League next season.
Defence has been an odd area for United. Chris Smalling has been decent, but everyone else has struggled in some capacity. Victor Lindelof doesn’t look good enough, Phil Jones is just a calamity, Eric Bailly has been injured and Marcos Rojo just hasn’t been playing…
I wouldn’t be wholly against the idea of signing a new full-back, but I’m just not sure that Skriniar is the man that fits the bill. He’s too similar to what we already have – and personally, we need the ready-made product rather than a young talent that we have to nurture.
