Donny van de Beek would start against Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday – and massively impress. Now fans think he’s ready for his full Premier League debut.
Indeed, we’ve seen Donny van de Beek play off the bench in the Premier League on multiple occasions. However, that first domestic league start for the Manchester United midfielder still eludes him.
You do get the impression that it’s now only a matter of time, though. Against Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday, the Dutchman was brilliant.
One-touch football, precision passing that breaks the lines and even getting stuck in defensively. It was an underrated performance from a supremely talented player. Reds legend Rio Ferdinand was amongst those left impressed.
Perhaps it was purely a case of easing Van de Beek into it. After all, the gulf in class between Eredivisie football and Premier League level is bigger. Plus, you have to factor in the Dutchman is moving into a completely different country, having to learn a completely different system.
Maybe we’re just impatient, but you also have to say that whenever Van de Beek has played, he’s left us all foaming at the mouth and wanting to see more.
He’s a player who would be a vital part of the midfield against a very talented Southampton side who will press us high. We need players who can think quickly and move the ball within one or two touches. That’s what Van de Beek is best at, so surely it’s a no-brainer to get him involved in this one?
As you’d imagine, United fans would take to Twitter in their droves to give Van de Beek plenty of backing. They’re all desperate to see the 23-year-old make his full Premier League debut against Southampton this weekend. He’s definitely earned that chance.
