Yesterday, a Sergio Ramos-shaped bombshell hit the footballing world. Manchester United fans believe Old Trafford is the perfect destination.
After officially announcing he’ll be leaving Real Madrid following a sixteen-year stay in the Spanish capital, it didn’t take the press long to link United with a move for Sergio Ramos.
After all, the Red Devils are desperate to sign a new centre-back partner for Harry Maguire this summer. With that in mind, this is an easy transfer rumour to create.
Ramos, now 35, would bring plenty of attractive attributes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would love to have in and around the dressing room. First and foremost, the Spaniard is a winner. He’s also an elite-level defender, while being an aerial threat in both penalty boxes.
United don’t have that centre-back who’ll throw his body on the line to secure three points. Ramos would do exactly that, while the impact he’d have on the younger players will only be a positive thing.
Don’t forget that Ramos will be available on a free transfer. While I appreciate that every big club in the world will probably be contemplating a deal, money-wise, United can compete with anyone.
There’s no transfer fee and although the wage demands will probably be pretty high, it’s absolutely worth offering Ramos a two-year deal at the Theatre of Dreams.
In a summer where transfer money is tight, moving for Ramos with no fee involved leaves room for money to be spent elsewhere. Who knows, perhaps we can sign Ramos, rather than a Raphael Varane, and use the rest of the money to go out there and grab a world-class defensive-midfielder as well as a Jadon Sancho.
As you’d imagine, United fans were out in full force, urging the Reds to sign the top-class defender who is available this summer.
