This summer, Manchester United Football Club have a pretty big decision to make regarding Jesse Lingard.
So for context, yesterday, we wrote an article, backing Jesse Lingard, hoping that the Englishman would be given one final opportunity to prove his worth at Manchester United.
After all, his form at West Ham has been nothing short of impeccable. Simply put, Lingard is now performing with confidence again – just as he was under Jose Mourinho a few years ago.
Personally, I felt as though he can still do a job at United. This is his boyhood club and I’d love for him to succeed at the Theatre of Dreams.
To gauge fan opinion on the subject, we put out a tweet asking fans for their thoughts on Lingard. It’s fair to say the response was overwhelming, though the thought process was completely opposite to me. Sadly, the majority of fans still think it’s best that the 27-year-old should be sold permanently – despite his upturn in form…
Check out the fan responses here:
I said it in the linked article above, for some, there’s just too much water under the bridge. It’s easy to forget, but Lingard has been pretty bad for quite some time now – and there are question marks in regards to where he’d actually fit into this United side.
Although I disagree, I understand that standpoint. I also reckon Solskjaer was genuine when he stated that he’ll re-evaluate Lingard’s situation over the summer. Personally, I reckon the Norwegian would love to keep him around.
One thing we’re not talking about is what Lingard wants. Who knows, he may want to stay at West Ham. After all, they’re playing some brilliant football right now under David Moyes – and he’s starting game-in-game-out which is exactly what he wanted.
It’s fair to say I’m disappointed with the fan response this time, though. But I guess that’s why we love football so much! It’d be boring if we shared exactly the same opinions all the time.
