Hannibal Mejbri played an outstanding game vs Salford City last night, with the midfielder catching the attention of Red Devils fans galore.
Just under a month ago, we covered claims from within the United U23 setup, who suggested that Hannibal would be spending at least another season with the Reds’ youth team.
Well, if last night was anything to go by, Hannibal is already looking like he’s good enough to take that next step. Against Salford City in a Football League Trophy game, Mejbri was comfortably the best player on the pitch.
He’d score an absolute peach to set United on their way, before tacking on an assist and controlling the game from the middle of the park. It was a display of real maturity against a Salford side who continue to improve under the ownership of the Class of 92.
Mejbri didn’t look out of place. His passing, directness, calmness on the ball and ability to execute under pressure. The Frenchman is showing why United paid almost £10million to sign him from AS Monaco.
We have to be patient with Mejbri, though. He’s still super-young. Nobody knows him better than the United coaches, and they’ll bring him into the first-team when they’re 100% sure he’s ready. Mason Greenwood can attest to that.
Like Greenwood, you do get the impression that Mejbri won’t ever be leaving on loan. He seems ready to play his part and I think at some point over the next twelve months, we’ll likely see him in a cup game or two.
Anyway, as you’d imagine, United fans were buzzing with the 17-year-old’s brilliant display against Salford last night. Twitter was (rightly) full of praise for the mega-talented midfielder.
