For Manchester United, this weekend was more of the same god-awful football that is now the norm.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side seriously struggles to string a few simple passes together, nevermind win a football match…
Newcastle United was by far and away the better team on the day, with the Red Devils falling short of expectations. The biggest problem position was midfield. It’s a game in which United should have dominated, particularly going up against the Longstaff brothers (one of whom was making his debut).
Fred and Andreas Pereira are just two terrible footballers and the lack of creativity in this team when Paul Pogba is missing is seriously alarming.
What makes it even worse is that in the U23s, you have James Garner who is banging in the goals for fun and looking like a top-drawer prospect. For whatever reason, he seems no closer to getting his first-team opportunity.
That hasn’t stopped Red Devils fans taking to Twitter in their droves to beg that the 18-year-old gets his chance, though I feel we’ll be kept waiting a little longer yet. Solskjaer is hardly going to throw Garner in there against Liverpool in two weeks’ time – though a serious case can be made that the Baby Faced Assassin should do exactly that.
