Man United fans believe a serious debate has to be had about Cristiano Ronaldo, following a bad outing vs Middlesbrough.
As the summer transfer window wound down, a Manchester United move to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back home felt surreal. The prodigal son was returning to Old Trafford – when it felt like all hope was lost in that regard.
The early signs were exactly what we expected. Outstanding performances, goals galore, on-field leadership. Though, over time, Ronaldo’s overall output has started to deteriorate. I think that’s fair to say.
Today, on his 37th birthday, the Greatest of All Time will certainly be feeling it. He played 120 minutes and missed a penalty, in what was a genuinely worrying performance from the Portugal superstar.
We know how effective Ronaldo can be – and has been in the past. He’ll always have a use and bringing him back to Manchester was 100% the correct decision. That doesn’t mean he is free of criticism.
Ronaldo struggled to be that focal point in our attack. He often made the wrong decision and at times, his body felt a couple of steps behind his brain. That’s only natural given he’s getting up there in age.
I do question whether it’s best if CR7 sits out a game or two in order to reignite that fire in his belly. However, that’s a difficult question to ask of Ralf Rangnick, who won’t want to risk upsetting his star player.
As you’d imagine, the United fans have started to question the decision behind signing the superstar in the summer, following another poor performance from Ronaldo vs Middlesbrough…
