Donny van de Beek is a shoo-in to start against Leicester City later, according to Manchester United fans.
Manchester United Football Club have games coming thick and fast. They only played 48 hours ago but today, they’ll be back out there in a Premier League match vs Leicester City.
The game itself has very little on the line, thus this looks like the ideal time to rest players – particularly with a game against Liverpool coming a couple of days later…
With that in mind, it’s widely expected that we’ll see some fresh faces which is always nice. Amongst those guys chomping at the bit and waiting for their opportunity is Donny van de Beek. The Dutchman has been used pretty sparingly this term.
United’s #34 has struggled to force his way into the side through a combination of poor performances and some great form from the midfielders around him. Now, he should get that opportunity again.
Van de Beek is settled into life in a new country, allowing him to focus solely on his football. This campaign was always going to be one where he was eased into it, particularly after Paul Pogba decided to stick around for another season.
What I do worry about, though, is I’m not really sure what Van de Beek brings to the table for this current United side. He’s not as creative as a Bruno Fernandes, nor as technically gifted as Paul Pogba. There’s also no way he starts in that holding-midfield role, either.
I just hope that if he does start, we finally see a strong showing from Van de Beek. It’d be the perfect time to do it, too, as he’d likely be given the opportunity to play in our final few Premier League fixtures, with a view to showing us all just how good he can be in 2021/22.
As you’d imagine, the United fans reckon the underused 24-year-old will be involved vs Leicester City later today. You’d surely think he’ll start this one, right…?
