Man United fans were left perplexed as Eric Bailly signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are constantly being linked with a move to sign a new centre-half this summer. Well, those problems may cease to exist with Eric Bailly signing a new contract.
The Ivorian has signed terms for the next four years, keeping him at the Theatre of Dreams until he’s 31. First and foremost, this news came a little out of left-field as not too long ago, he was ready to reject the latest offer on the table. I wonder what’s changed…
With his deal running close to expiry, you’d imagine this is a case of United wanting to protect their asset. After all, Bailly cost this club a pretty penny in terms of transfer fee. I guess they were never going to risk losing him for nothing next summer.
Personally, I can’t help but feel disappointed. New contracts should be earned and I can honestly say Bailly hasn’t done anywhere near enough to keep his place at the biggest club in the world.
Constant injuries, inconsistent performances and just being generally unreliable. And this club wonders why agents can easily take them for a ride when it comes to negotiating fees…?
You wouldn’t be surprised if Bailly picks up a long-term issue in the not too distant future and we don’t see him for another six months while he continues to collect his hefty weekly wage packet – as sadly, that has been the story of his United career thus far.
As you’d expect, United fans would be left disappointed with the latest contact news to come out of Old Trafford. Sadly, I have to agree with the masses. Bailly just hasn’t deserved a new deal at all…
