Manchester United fans would heap the praise on Anthony Martial, following a stunning second-half vs Southampton.
Well, it’s not every day you’ll see your team score nine goals. For Manchester United fans, last night was pretty special.
Sure, the Red Devils were helped by a couple of cheap red cards given to Southampton players, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were ruthlessly-brilliant. It was a real get-right performance from every single player out on that field – and I absolutely loved it.
The man who undoubtedly needed it the most was Anthony Martial. Although he’d start this game on the bench, he’d make up for lost time, by finishing the game with two goals and an assist. I think it’s safe to say his goal drought is well and truly over.
Football, particularly for forwards, is a confidence-game. Martial’s been visibly struggling recently and we were getting bored of covering him in a negative light.
Last night, though, he was electric and it was an honour watching Martial operate like we know he all can. The movement, hunger and desire to get into threatening positions was suddenly there again. Long may that continue as we’re going to need him or the second-half of the season.
I just hope that Martial can now kick on from here. I’d expect to see him in the team for United’s FA Cup tie against West Ham this weekend. Another goal or two in that one and we’ll really start believing in our number nine once again.
As you’d expect, United fans were delighted with the 25-year-old’s top second-half against Southampton. Rightly so too, it was an absolute joy watching him work.
