Manchester United Football Club picked up a hard-fought draw away at Everton this afternoon, as the Reds passed up the chance to close the gap on Chelsea to just a solitary point.
In the end, it was a David de Gea mistake which cost Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men all three, but you can’t fault the effort, intensity and desire within this team. United definitely wanted it.
The man who summed it up perfectly was club captain Harry Maguire. After signing from Leicester City in an £80million deal, United fans were initially somewhat underwhelmed. However, since the year’s turn, Slabhead has seriously kicked it up a notch.
Today was unquestionably his best performance in Reds colours. Maguire won everything in the air, tried to pass the ball forward and set the tone due to his leadership.
Making him captain was an excellent decision by the Baby Faced Assassin and it is certainly paying dividends as we approach the business end of the campaign. He’s stepping up when it matters most and it’s nice to see Maguire getting the praise he so richly deserves.
Following the game today, Twitter was awash with United fans lauding the 26-year-old for his brilliant outing vs Everton and rightly so too. We’ve compiled the best reactions here:
