Luke Shaw made his long-awaited England return last night – and he was absolutely brilliant.
Three years. That’s how long Luke Shaw was made to wait to make his return to the England squad. Blood, sweat and tears were shed on the left-back’s long road back, but my, it must have felt worth it when he pulled on that Three Lions jersey.
There’s a reason why Gareth Southgate selected Shaw. He’s performing at an incredibly high level. Heck, if Bruno Fernandes didn’t exist, we’re looking at someone who would, by far and away, be our Player of the Year.
From minute one against Albania, Shaw looked right at home. Work ethic, team-playing and a genuine desire to win. His moment of the game would come when he’d play an inch-perfect ball into Harry Kane to score the opening goal.
I genuinely believe we’re watching the best version of Shaw, as someone who has played his way into pole position for regular starts at this summer’s European Championships.
Now, it’s about building on from here, finishing the season strong and doing all he can to impress both Solskajer and Southgate. I guess the other main thing is staying fit, which has arguably been Shaw’s biggest weakness. Touch wood, he’s good to go over the summer, during a tournament which I don’t doubt the whole world will start to take notice of his form.
As you would imagine, Man United fans would take to social media in their masses to rave about the 25-year-old’s top display for his country. He was truly brilliant.
