Victor Lindelof would put in an excellent display vs Chelsea last night, with fans left impressed by the Ice Man.
After some reflection, you have to be content with a draw against Chelsea last night. Sure, we should have had a penalty and on another day we could’ve won. However, it’s a better point for us than it is for them.
In games like these, you need that solid backline to build from. In far too many matches this season, we’ve given away cheap goals that has us chasing things unnecessarily. Yesterday, that wasn’t the case and Victor Lindelof was a massive reason why.
The Ice Man has often crumbled in pressure situations. Not this time. He’d rise to the challenge, make some massive tackles and blocks, preventing his clean sheet and ensuring United took home a point.
For me, the moment that springs to mind was that last-ditch interception to deny a Timo Werner who was bearing down on goal. Moments like that can lose you the match, Lindelof’s positioning was impeccable.
The question marks about his inconsistency will no doubt remain. However, if you’re going to critique him for bad outings, you have to be just as willing to give him his dues when playing well.
Yesterday afternoon, Lindelof was probably United’s best player. Not only was he good defensively, but his passing in between the lines was also crisp and problematic for Chelsea at times. Fair play.
As you’d imagine, United fans were pleased with the 26-year-old, who put in an excellent display against a decent Chelsea team. It’s hard to disagree with the Man of the Match shouts, that’s for sure…
