Scott McTominay struggled badly vs Liverpool, with the Red Devils fans less than impressed…
Manchester United games against the old enemy are always intense. Yesterday it was no different, though in the end, the Red Devils were left celebrating.
A date with West Ham and David Moyes in the last sixteen awaits, though how nice does it feel to dump Liverpool out of the FA Cup? It was a deserved victory, too.
On the day, United were the better team with the midfield battle all-important. Paul Pogba would do his part, though Scott McTominay struggled for large periods of this one.
Sure, it’s not easy to compete with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, though McTominay was just far too passive at times, while often sloppy in possession. If you want to win major titles and compete at the highest level, you have to turn up in these big moments.
Don’t get me wrong, I like McTominay as a player. You love the drive, desire and the ability to avoid the press. However, I think we’d all like to see a little more consistency. A lot of the time, United winning or losing comes down to what McTominay turns up on any given match-day. Yesterday, United won in spite of that poor outing from the Scotland international.
At the end of the day, the Red Devils got the job done and it’s onto the next one. I don’t doubt we’ll see an improved performance from McTominay next time around.
For now, though, Red Devils supporters would react in their droves to the 24-year-old’s performance, as McTominay struggled badly against Liverpool…
