Before this weekend, Manchester United had won three away games on the spin – improving in each and every one of them. However, the loss against AFC Bournemouth brought us crashing back down to earth,
Simply put, the players were outworked by their opposite number while Eddie Howe got the better of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Again, it all stems from poor concentration and nervous energy spreading through the team.
Unfortunately, it seems as though Harry Maguire has caught that bug at the moment, with the England international partly culpable for the sole goal scored by Josh King.
Maguire has struggled recently after an excellent start to life in United colours. I guess that’s normal, ups and downs are part-and-parcel of life for anyone, but this one was always going to be highlighted more due to the price-tag placed on the centre-back’s head…
It does seem as though some fans are starting to lose faith in the 26-year-old, with some supporters labelling him a waste of money who gets exposed easily. While others pointed to his pace (or lack of) as the real problem.
For me, Maguire is better than what we already had but isn’t elite. With a quality team around him then he’d be a top-class player. However, the lack of talent right now is hurting Maguire more than anyone…
For now, I’ll leave you with the Twitter reaction:
