Manchester United fans are calling for Hannibal Mejbri to get his first-team opportunity sooner rather than later…
The academy at Old Trafford is overflowing with talent. From Facundo Pellistri, to Ethan Galbraith and Shola Shoretire. There’s just too much quality to name at the moment. Credit has to go to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for that, whose recruitment policy is paying dividends.
Perhaps the biggest talent of them all is Hannibal Mejbri. The young man was signed from AS Monaco about eighteen months ago now, as a then-16-year-old.
However, Hannibal has consistently impressed for the U18s and more recently, the U23s. The Frenchman looks right at home at the heart of that United midfield and he looks like someone whose getting better game-in-game-out.
Not too long ago, we covered a claim which outlined United’s plans for Mejbri. The report stated that he’d spend another season at youth level at the very least.
However, for anyone who has watched him play, you’d like to think United are reconsidering their plans. This young man can play. Against Manchester City in the U23s derby at the weekend, he was targeted by City players who were constantly looking to foul him. Credit to Hannibal, who got up, shook it off and continued to play his football.
Built-in that attacking midfielder mould, Mejbri looks to make things happen with his passing and directness, which actually led to a Red Devils penalty in the first half. Simply put, you just have to be impressed with what Hannibal can do with the ball at his feet.
Man United fans took to Twitter in their droves to heap praise on Mejbri, who continues to impress at U23s level. Some supporters reckon he’s ready for his chance while the Jack Grealish comparison is just too obvious to ignore…
