Manchester United Football Club booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round yesterday afternoon, putting in a comfortable performance over Tranmere Rovers.
The Red Devils were worthy winners, with six different names getting themselves on the score-sheet. Amongst those was Mason Greenwood, who coolly tucked home from the penalty spot to wrap up proceedings.
It would be Greenwood’s tenth goal of the season, becoming the youngest player to reach that milestone since Norman Whiteside back in the mid-eighties!

We have an immense talent on our hands, that much is obvious. Now, it’s about nurturing that ability, not overdoing it and allowing Greenwood to play without the pressure. After all, he’s still so young and there will undoubtedly be bumps in the road.
What I find most amazing is that Greenwood is supposedly left-footed, though he takes penalties with his right. Word on the grapevine suggests that he missed a spot-kick against Manchester City at U15 with his left, and hasn’t taken them with that foot since…
Either way, it was yet another cool, calm and composed performance from Greenwood yesterday – on a less-than-friendly pitch. He scored his goal, played well and contributed to the performance. As you’d expect, the United fans were raving about the talented 18-year-old on social media…
For now, though, I’ll leave you with the best fan reaction to Mason Greenwood vs Tranmere:
It’s just a privilege watching homegrown talents flourish under Solskjaer. I know the United manager has his critics, but we’re right to praise the Norweigan for the work he has done with youngsters. Mason Greenwood vs Tranmere was yet another display of that.
My feeling on the matter is give Solskjaer time. Greenwood et al are only going to get better. Sure, we’re struggling right now but he deserves at least another summer transfer window to continue to mould this squad into one that fits his style.
