Manchester United may have unearthed another gem in the form of Anthony Elanga.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has always been willing to give youth a chance. If they’re good enough, they’re old enough.
One man who has been on the fringes of the first-team for a fair while is Anthony Elanga. Sadly, a pretty lengthy lay-off would ruin his chances in early 2021. Well, I’m pleased to report he’s back – and back with a bang.
The Swede was integral during United’s 6-2 victory over Derby County’s U23s last night. He’d set United on their way with a goal within the first 30 seconds, before adding another goal and assist.
Predominantly a winger, Elanga’s style is pretty similar to how Marcus Rashford operates from off the flank, cutting inside and causing havoc with either foot.
This young man can play at an extremely high level already, with U23s football looking a step below Elanga. that could explain why Solskjaer decided to include the winger in his Europa League squad for our game against Granada in the last round.
Elanga’s long-term future was secured with a new contract back in March. Now, for the player, it’s down to developing and either breaking into the senior squad or heading out on loan in 2021/22. Either option feels like a realistic possibility at this point in time.
As you’d imagine, United fans were buzzing with the starlet all over social media. It was a top display from the 19-year-old, whose three goal contributions (2 goals, 1 assist), powered United to a 6-2 victory.
