Last week, Manchester United were linked with a move for Daryl Dike. Now, he’s just scored a brilliant brace for Barnsley. As you’d imagine, the Reds fans reacted in their droves.
Over the last week or so, Manchester United have twice been linked with a move to sign Daryl Dike. The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Barnsley, where he’s scored an impressive seven goals in thirteen Championship games.
His parent club, Orlando City, must be delighted with his progress. However, they won’t be best-pleased with rumours linking Dike with a permanent switch away.
The young striker, likened in style to Romelu Lukaku, is loving life in England at the moment. No doubt Barnsley, who holds the option to sign Dike on a permanent deal worth £18million, are hoping they can raise that sort of cash to sign the American for good.
If not, though, United could well be waiting in the wings to pounce. As expected, after recent links, the supporters are starting to take notice of Dike. I, like many others, have tuned in to his last couple of games in order to see how he’s getting on.
Against Reading on Friday, Dike was average. However, I completely saw what all the fuss was about this evening against Luton. Pace, power, precision, leading by example. The American was superb from first minute to last, playing with a maturity beyond his years.
Obviously, Dike is young and inexperienced. He’s not somebody who you can entrust with leading the line week-in-week-out as he’s still going to need time to grow as a player. However, the talent is there and he would be a cheaper option than most.
As you’d imagine, the Man United fans would react in their droves as the Reds transfer target scores a quality brace. This is certainly one to keep an eye on.
