After making his debut as a second-half substitute against the LA Galaxy a couple of days ago, Romelu Lukaku was handed his first start against Real Salt Lake. The 24-year-old Belgian was the lone striker, and on the whole, he played superbly.
It was a much-improved display all-round from the Red Devils’ new #9, and of course, it was nice to see him get on the scoresheet. He took it brilliantly and shown plenty of composure to make the goalkeeper go to ground before coolly slotting home.
Perhaps what was most impressive for me though was his ability to hold the ball up and bring other teammates into play. His link-up football with Jesse Lingard was a joy to watch, and the pair seems to be on the same wavelength already.
I think that as his Old Trafford career goes on, the big man will only get better and better as he gets used to playing with his new teammates. It has been a solid start for him though, and he’s getting into the right positions which is reassuring.
Now that he’s opened his account the confidence will be flowing, and hopefully, that’ll be the first of many Manchester United goals for our new hero.
Have a look at the tweets about the big man Lukaku below:
Lukaku had a very good first-half. Held the ball up well and linked up nicely with his teammates.

First goal of many for Lukaku! For a man his height and built, he's got great pace. Powerful strike! #MUFC pic.twitter.com/f6PGlXilyU
