Manchester United ended their pre-season tour unbeaten, looking rather excellent in the process.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to play to this young squad’s strengths, with a high-pressing, high-intensity game-plan that seems to be working wonders.
The youngsters, in particular, have looked superb over the last month or so, although there’s one who is more senior than the others; Axel Tuanzebe.
After spending last season out on loan at Aston Villa, the talented defender has bided his time and Tuanzebe now definitely looks like he’s up for the challenge at United.
As you’d imagine, the United fans all over Twitter now believe the 21-year-old is ready for regular first-team football, with some already claiming he’s better than Victor Lindelof…
Against AC Milan it was the calmness that was most impressive. Tuanzebe doesn’t look phased, he never panics, he’s always in control. When you add that to his excellent positioning and strong tackling ability, what’s not to like?
Harry Maguire will be the best centre-back at Old Trafford as soon as he walks through the door, but it’s now about finding him the perfect partner. Be it Lindelof or Tuanzebe, it’s certainly between those two as opposed to Phil Jones, Chris Smalling or Marcos Rojo.
There’s something exciting about watching young, home-grown talents flourish on the highest stage and Tuanzebe’s time is now.
