Manchester United Football Club have been hit-and-miss this season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In tough away games, we’ve seen more bad than good – and that was the case once again yesterday as the Red Devils drew 3-3 with Sheffield United.

There were some god-awful individual performances on the day. Most notably from a certain Phil Jones, who struggled mightily on his first start in what seems like an absolute age… Perhaps there’s a reason why we hadn’t seen him in so long.

The problem was made all-the-worse when you glance at Chris Smalling’s form for AS Roma. Yesterday, the centre-back scored once and tacked on two assists during a 3-0 victory for the Serie A giants.

What best sums up Smalling’s form is that he actually has two more assists than a certain Cristiano Ronaldo in the league this term. All credit to the Englishman, whose making a real name for himself – which is wonderful to see…

Sure, Smalling has never been the most impressive Red Devils player. However, in terms of consistency, he’s been right up there with United’s best centre-halves over the last half-decade.

When you combine that with Jones’ poor performance, United Twitter went into overdrive. As you’d imagine, Reds fans bemoaned the decision to let the 30-year-old Smalling leave on loan, while all we’re getting from Jones is some funny facial expressions and colossal footballing errors…
