Manchester United finally got their man, with David de Gea now tied down to a new long-term contract.
The superstar 28-year-old has been amongst the best goalkeepers in the world for the last half-decade – despite the fact he has made a few mistakes over the last six months.
It just gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer one less problem to worry about for the next five years, and I’m feeling pretty confident that De Gea will now be back to his best as he isn’t under the pressure of playing for a new contract.
Anyway, as you’d imagine, the fans took to Twitter in their droves to react to the huge news, with the overwhelming consensus being one of positivity.
Personally, I’m delighted. De Gea is world-class. He has been a wonderful servant to this football club and if anyone deserves big money, it’s him.
What’s encouraging is that Solskjaer’s puzzle is slowly but surely coming together. The defence looks a lot better while you can see what the Baby Faced Assassin is trying to achieve.
De Gea seemingly believes in his manager, too, otherwise, he wouldn’t have put pen to paper on what is likely to be his last, mega-bucks, multi-year deal.
My one concern is what happens to Dean Henderson? He’s another top-quality player, but he’ll be 27 by the time De Gea’s new deal expires. I’d be surprised if he’s still at the club this time next year.
