Over the summer, there were question marks in regards to who Manchester United’s long-term number one was.
David de Gea was yet to put pen to paper on a new contract, while Sergio Romero is still regarded as being amongst the best back-ups in the country.
Most of the chatter, though, was about up-and-comer, Dean Henderson. After an excellent loan spell with Sheffield United in the Championship, the young shot-stopper was making a name for himself.
In the end, he’d head back to Sheffield for another season with The Blades – but this time in the Premier League.
After earning cult hero status with Sheffield United, it felt like the right move – particularly as De Gea would go on to sign a new long-term deal at the Theatre of Dreams.
Yesterday, though, Henderson made a howling mistake to gift Liverpool all three points. As you’d imagine, United fans reacted in their droves to the 22-year-old’s huge error – though there were two differing opinions of his overall game.
For me, I’m in the second group. I actually think Henderson is an excellent young goalkeeper. Don’t forget that, at the same age, De Gea was making mistakes with regularity during his first season at United. Here’s hoping our Englishman is going through something similar…
Not everyone was in a negative mood, though:
