Man United fans react to excellent Charlie Savage display vs Liverpool

Charlie Savage certainly didn’t look out of place in Man United’s midfield during the pre-season game vs Liverpool earlier today.

Manchester United couldn’t have asked for a better start to pre-season, beating Liverpool 4-0 while Erik ten Hag got a look at 20+ players in action.

The game itself was an exciting affair. United took their chances, Liverpool didn’t, though I will say the Red Devils looked like the slightly better team on the day.

Our first XI looked sharp in the first 45, before wholesale changes were made in the second half. Youngsters were given their opportunities, with two midfielders impressing in particular. We’ll have more on Zidane Iqbal later, though for now, I’d like to focus on Charlie Savage.

Fresh off of signing a new long-term contract this summer, it was great to see Ten Hag place real faith in Savage.

Competing against the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita, Robbie Savage’s son absolutely did not look out of place. Now we know the young midfielder is there on merit, rather than family reputation.

Albeit a simplistic game, Savage does the basics extremely well. As the MUTV commentators said, Roy Keane would’ve loved playing with this boy because he simply doesn’t give the ball away cheaply.

Taking it on the half-turn, passing it on and driving forward with the ball at his feet. Savage looked superb in every area. I have to admit, I was extremely pleased with the display from the young man and I’m absolutely eager to see more.

As you’d expect, the United fans were seriously impressed with what they saw from the midfielder vs Liverpool. They took to Twitter by the masses to express their delight.
