Manchester United’s problematic midfield is one of several issues within the first-team squad at Old Trafford.
It’s going to take time to fix the middle of the park, and things could get worse before they get better – particularly if Paul Pogba leaves.
One player that can no longer go unnoticed is James Garner. The midfielder was in a few match-day squads last term and jetted on pre-season tour with the senior squad over the summer.
However, he was used sparingly, and with each passing week, it becomes a bigger mystery as to why. He’s now scored six goals in six games at youth level – while tacking on two assists for teammates in the process.
Last night against Lincoln in the LeasingCom trophy, Garner scored again – while controlling the midfield single-handedly at times.
The 18-year-old put in another top drawer display as he continues to impress the Red Devils fans all over the world – and now, the calls for Garner to get his first-team chance are even stronger than ever before.
Many believe he’ll be a first-team regular soon, with one fan stating Garner could go on to be the best goal-scoring midfielder this club has ever had. Now I’m sure Paul Scholes would have something to say about that, but the fact that he’s already drawing such comparisons so early on is such a huge confidence-booster.
