Manchester United fans were treated to another unspectacular performance this evening, though this time, at least the three points will be heading home with us.
The Red Devils now sit atop of Europa League Group L, with some encouraging performances from Brandon Williams and James Garner to boot.
However, there was one man in particular who failed to impress. Juan Mata continued to trudge around the field without creating an awful lot or controlling the game.
Don’t forget that the Spaniard actually signed a new three-year deal over the summer, which for a man who offers very little end-product, is rather worrying…
Tonight was more of the same from Mata. The display epitomised United’s outing on the whole, and I’m just not sure how he’s going to get better.
In that regard, I’m certainly not alone. United fans took to Twitter in their droves to criticise the 31-year-old’s performance and they were more than justified in doing so.
For me, it begs the question as to why Angel Gomes couldn’t have played. The talented teenager could have been equally as inept, but at least he would have learned something while having room to grow… I just don’t get it.
